Value Contrarian Asset Management (VCAM)
Value Contrarian Asset Management (VCAM) is a Montreal-based independent investment management firm. The company was founded by Benjamin Horwood in 1995.
VCAM manages both the Value Contrarian Equity Fund (VCEF) and individual portfolios for institutions, high net worth individuals and accredited investors. The Fund commenced in 1988 as a private partnership. In 1997 the Value Contrarian Fund became available for sale to the public through the filing of an Offering Memorandum with Quebec's Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF).

Benjamin Horwood, President
Ben has been in the investment industry since 1988. He graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Civil Law Degree and prior to that completed his HBA from the University of Western Ontario. Upon graduation, he briefly worked for the Montreal law firm of Lavery De Billy. Ben started his investment management career at MAM Investment Council in Montreal. In 1995, he founded Value Contrarian Asset Management. In 1997, the Value Contrarian Fund became available for public distribution to accredited investors. Ben holds both a fund manager’s as well a portfolio manager’s license and is currently the President of Value Contrarian Asset Management.
Mahmoud Shaker, Senior Manager - Operations & Compliance
Mahmoud Shaker joined the VCAM team in May 2023. In 2013, Mahmoud moved from Dubai to Montreal to pursue a degree in Economics and Political Science from McGill University. Prior to VCAM, Mahmoud oversaw compliance at Tactex Asset Management. While at Tactex, he also managed the compliance program for the Moka app, a FinTech platform for low-cost mutual funds. Mahmoud is a soccer aficionado (Arsenal) and enjoys the great Canadian outdoors.
Domenico Marti, Associate - Operations & Trading
Domenico Marti has been part of the VCAM team since September 2022. Prior, he worked part-time at TD Bank in Montreal. Dom obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance at McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management. He has also completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC). Dom has a strong work ethic, is passionate about all things in Finance and loves travelling the world!
